Hi Marla! Hope you had a good weekend. Saturday was the annual Hogtoberfest at Chuck and Linda's house. It was a blast! Tons of food, good friends, lots of laughs, and of course Karaoke! Missed your voice -- we sounded TERRIBLE as usual! ;) Yesterday Steve and I went down to Rick and Kathie's house to play with Owen and watch football. Unky Steve taught Owen how to hold a football, and sang him his first lullaby, "The Gambler." ;) The little guy is finally over 5 pounds, and I may be a biased Auntie, but I think he's the cutest little guy in the whole wide world! I hope you and your mom can come over Friday evening for Stampin' Up! Have a good week! Love ya! MM

Hi to Marla, Mary & Leo, & Mark, The kids left a while ago; and then Joan, Lesli and I did some planning for next week. My voice is just about gone, because of this cold. I read the email on your "email message board," from your friend, Lyndsay, about her plans to have her dog in her wedding. That was fun to read!! The niece of a friend of mine was married recently, and the niece's dogs were in the wedding, all dressed up. If I were ever to remarry, I probably couldn't plan to include my cats in my wedding. I don't think they would be very happy about taking part in anything except eating food at the reception, and pouncing on things! I have some of the cutest little kindie-babies. I'm really going to miss them. We read "Pablo's Tree" today, about little 5-year-old Pablo whose grandpa planted a little tree on the day baby Pablo was adopted. Then, every year Pablo goes to spend the day and night after his birthday, with Grandpa. Grandpa always decorates Pablo's tree a different way each year, to surprise him. Such a sweet story, and the kids really got "into" it. Tomorrow, we will cut-and- glue for the first time in kgn., doing some of Pablo's birthday trees. I'd better go for now. I have quite a lot of planning to do for tomorrow, my last day. I want to get a lot of fun things into tomorrow. Love ya' lots, Sylvia

Hi, Marla & Family, My kindergarteners just left, and I thought I'd drop a note to you before I get busy doing anything else at school. Instead of 28 kids I now have 19. That makes a big difference, but I do miss the ones who went to the new class. Friday night and Monday night I moved the classroom furniture & had fun setting up new centers now that there's room for more centers. I even got brave enough to prepare and open up the water table and the sand table. We all practiced running our fingers through the water "like quiet little fishies," before we took group turns using the water table, and it worked out really well. It had been a long time since I'd had a water table in the classroom, and I was hoping that I hadn't gotten TOO OLD to deal with little kids & water tables! Mary, I was so glad to get your call. I wish I could have visited on Saturday, but I had the wedding to attend. It was at 10:30, and then there was the lunch-reception, & by the time I finally got home & got my chores done, the day was gone. I am really looking forward to having some time again; it's been TOO LONG since I've been able to see you, Marla. I look at your pictures, often, but that's not the same as seeing you!!! This "half-time" job has totally consumed my attention and time since the end of July! I teach from 8-11:00, and then eat lunch and work at school for a while; then I go home and rest a bit and do my kitty-work, and come back to work at school at night. There was so much to do, to be certain that I was ready for the large class each day; then getting the new class lists made (being sure that parents' schedules could allow A.M. kids to change to P.M., etc.) required a lot of extra work; and then it was time to rearrange furniture and schedules for the smaller class. Last night was open-house, and it took a lot of work (but it was fun) getting things cleaned & set up just the way I wanted, for our visitors. Now that I have everything the way I want it, I'll be leaving! I know Susan will let me come back by to visit the kids sometimes. They've been so much fun to be with, and I'll miss them. I've gotten a cold in the last two days, and will be glad when it's gone. My nose and throat are sore, but at least I haven't lost my voice yet. Let's hope my voice holds out for two more days! The wedding on Saturday was very nice. My grown student, Lisa, married Patrick. The wedding was a garden wedding at the Dove House; the rain held off, but it was COLD. I was glad that I had a jacket instead of a strapless gown such as the ones the bride & bridesmaids wore! The reception was indoors, and very lovely. I've known Lisa since she was just a little toddler; I met her when her big brother was in my third grade, and later she was in my class. The wedding colors were sage green, lavender, and white. The bride and groom did a dove release at the end of the ceremony. Well, I'd better run for now. I need to go to Costco and get cat food, & then around to feed the wild cats. Then I'm going home and going to bed, to try to help me get over this cold and feel better. I'm going to take my schoolwork home with me so that I don't have to come back to school tonight. Love you lots, and will see you this next week, for sure! Sylvia

Hi Shmars! The wedding is nearly here... just 6 days away. I can't believe it's finally here! We are pretty well organized so we aren't panicking, which feels nice. We are so sorry you can't make the wedding but you will be with us in spirit. You will be very pleased to know that our dog Saffron (who you met in Boulder) will be walking down the aisle! Everyone is very excited about that. She even gets a credit in the program as "Best Dog." She will have a flower collar that will match my bouquet. We'll take lots of pictures and send you some when we get back from the honeymoon. We are headed to Tahiti and Bora Bora for the honeymoon and are getting so excited about that too! Mary, thank you for sending us the reply card, I passed along your message to Mike's parents. You will all be missed, but we'll be thinking of you. Next time I write, I will be a Mrs! Holy Cow! Love you, Shmars! Keep up the good work. xoxo, Lynz

Hi Marla and fam! The kiddos are busily working on making polygons out of straws and twistie-ties! Hands-on math is great! Hope you had fun in Glenwood! Steffie has a great open-space trail behind her new house, and we were hoping we could all take the pooches for a walk this weekend -- Sunday, maybe? I'll give you a call and set it up. Our little nephew, Owen was born on Friday night -- did you get my message? He is still at Swedish, "cooking" a little bit longer. Since he was so early, he is only 4 pounds, and needs to learn how to nurse and breathe a little easier before he can go home. He's SO TINY, we call him "The Little O." I know that you'll love him as much as we do! Have a good week, I'll see you soon! Love, Missy

Hi Marla, You have been on my mind. I just checked your web site and I'm happy to see your continued progress. Sounds like your summer has been filled with activities and hard work. Those horses at your cousins house are beautiful. That is a great picture! My summer has flown by too. We had my daughter Sarah's wedding this weekend. We've planned for a year and I don't know why the last 2 weeks are soooo busy, but fun. Had lots of company for a few weeks and today they all left including Sarah and her new hubby Justin. I feel sort of blue this evening. Beautiful memories though. Jan Owens and Carol Call were at the wedding a it was fun to visit with them. Keep on keeping on and remember everyday that so many are thinking of you. Anna Mae

Hi, Marla, I came back to school to work this late afternoon & evening, and I decided to check your photo gallery before I get busy. I love seeing each picture a lot of times! I mailed you a letter a few minutes ago, but decided to try my hand at sending you an email. It's hard to believe that I used to be a legal secretary, working for 7 lawyers in a law firm downtown (in summers) and that I typed a 500-page doctoral dissertation for my husband --- and that I rather abruptly became so "technologically challenged" with the passing of the electric typewriter!! We sent notes today to let parents know that we are looking for volunteer-kids to change from morning to afternoon kindergarten. I hope that will go smoothly. (I told more about that in my letter.) Joan's and my morning classes of 28 & 29 kids are TOO LARGE, so it's nice to be getting the extra class set up. We plan to start the class next Monday. Right now, I can't quite imagine giving up any of the "babies" I have had for two weeks, but I know the change will be better for everyone. I just got back from having my eyes examined; was 'way past-due for that. I'll stop back by in a day or two to pick out my new frames; no time today. If I remember correctly, you are going on Tuesdays and Thursdays to work at Craig. I'll try to reach you by phone tonight, and will hope you and your mom can go to lunch with me one day this week or very soon. With the starting of school, I have missed you especially. Love ya'lots, Sylvia

Hi Marla, Just wanted to say Hi and that I love you. It's such a pleasure to talk to you when I call and to hear how much you've improved. Really looking forward to all of us getting together for Christmas. Hope you're having a good time with Grandma and Papoo being in Glenwood this wk-end. Wish we could be there too. But we are there in thoughts and spirit. They are having a big fair at our church this wk-end. Like the carnivals that have lots of booths - to do things like throw a dime in a dish, throw a dart at a balloon, throw a basketball in a hoop, knock bottles over with a ball etc. Uncle Marty and I just got back from there. We ate at one of the food booths. We had Filipino food. Glad it's going to a good cause as I don't think I'd want it every night. Ha. I'm really liking my new job but it sure is different working 5 days a week. I sure do look forward to wk-ends. I love seeing your pictures and your progress and sure do appreciate Mark putting them on your website. You look wonderful... keep up the good work. And it is work huh? Love you and pray for you. God Bless, Aunt Margaret

Hi Marla, It sounds like you've been enjoying the outdoors, with hikes in the mountains, and swimming in the Hot Springs pool. That's wonderful! Guess what I'm doing? I'm teaching in the Toddler/Pre-School Center at GSES. So many of the students that I had at the Glenwood Pre-School are parents now, and I'm teaching their children. After taking a few years off, I love being with young children again. If you're ever nearby during the week, come visit us. Love and regards to all of your family. ~ Kathy Harris

Hi Shmars! It's countdown time... 27 days away is our big wedding day! You'll have to cross your fingers that everything goes according to plan. There sure are a lot of details to tend to, but we are doing our best. I hope that after our honeymoon, when things have quieted down, we'll have an opportunity to come see you in Colorado. I miss Colorado and football season is just getting started! That was my favorite time of year when we were roommates. The pictures of you are just terrific! I love seeing you hike all over those gorgeous mountains. Seeing the mountains are an added perk... thanks, Mark! Stay well and keep up that swimming! Love, Lynz
