Hi Shmars! WOW are you amazing! I loved seeing all of those pictures of you at camp! I remember doing ropes courses but I definitely needed both arms... you are smokin! You are far better than I could hope to be on that! Way to go! It looks like you had a really great time there. I'm so happy you could have the experience. I'm sorry to hear about the recent complications with your arm that's got to be a drag. I was watching some show the other night and thought of you as they said Roy Horne from Siefried and Roy (the Cat People) went to Craig! I was so impressed that you and Roy were at the same facility. That just shows what a top notch joint it is. It is so comforting knowing you are in such capable hands. Please give a big Happy Birthday to Mary from us and keep up all the good work, sweetie. I just came off of a 10 week travel stint... each week I was either off on some business trip or travelling somewhere for a wedding or something. It's nice to be home and next week Mike and I will vacation here... which will be so nice. We have so many things we'd like to get done on the house before the winter comes. The trees are changing color and it is really pretty. Rumor has it, if we get a pumpkin, it will get smashed, so I'm thinking of sticking with some good old fashioned scary halloween stuff. I've been told we'll get hundreds of kids here... better stock up on the candy! That's about it on this end, but I think of you all the time and Mike sends his love.xoxoxo Lynz

Great new pictures!Marla, you are gaining so much strength, coordination, and I probably couldn't do the rock climb with two hands girl! Way to go! You are doing awesome with your progress! Please say hi to Mark for me. I e-mailed with him awhile back. I am caregiver to my 20 year old son, who had a MVA. It will be two years post injury on Thanksgiving day. He is in Michigan right now at a Res. REhab for TBI's and has made good progress. His injuries were twisted brainstem, shearing through-out his brain, compound fracture to his right arm,and a collapsed lung. He has quite a bit of tone, so they may put a baclofen pump in soon for that. He is still in a wheel chair, but practices walking w/a walker dailey. His speech is getting better w/ therapy everyday. He was hit in his emotions, so has a hard time controling his anger, but that is getting better. When he is home, I show him your pics and it lets him see what hard work and determination can do! Hugs, Tina P.S. Keep up the great work!

Marla, Thank you so much for going with me to hear Aron Ralston speak last night. It meant so much to be able to share that experience with you. Both of you have such amazing courage and spirit, I felt overwhelmed. I heard and saw so many simliarities between his ordeal and what you have gone through, it was truly inspiring! See you tomorrow! Love, MM

Hi, Marla, Just a note before I leave this coming week to go to Okla. to get Mom. I've been really busy trying to get everything ready here at home.I finally got Mom's bed delivered today, for her bed-room, and recently got a TV in it, too, and a special rail installed by the front porch steps. This will be the first time she's been here, and I want things to start seeming comfortable and like home for her, for when she comes to live with me later on. I think I told you, she'll be here for her 87th birthday. My baby kittens are three weeks old now, and getting sweeter by the day. They are running all over their room, like tiny little furry bugs! Muncher and Mo run to me when I come into their room, but the other two are a little more reserved, not ready to leave Tootsie's side. I started giving them a little formula yesterday, to supplement, and also a little turkey baby food. Muncher and Mo really like it, but it takes them a while to figure out that they can use their little tongues to get it into their mouths, rather than having to wait for me to spoon it in. I love to watch them! I'm wondering when your move will be. I know you and your family are very busy now; keep me posted when you can. Much love to you, Sylvia

Hi Marla! Sorry for the blank message, I accidentally pressed enter instead of tab! Today was the first full day with kiddos, and I'm a pooped petunia! It was a good day, though. I have a nice group of kids again this year, and I think it's going to be a good year! I'm still feeling good, we got to hear the baby's heartbeat last week. It sounds kind of like the swish-swish of waves on the beach! I was lucky that I didn't have any morning sickness at all! None of my regular clothes fit me anymore, but I'm not quite big enough for all of the maternity clothes I've gotten from friends and my mom yet. I keep wearing the same thing over and over again! :) That's so not like me! :) I would love for you to come to school and help out in my class before you all head out! Also, if you need any help with the move, I'm volunteering Steve to do some heavy lifting for you! You and I can "supervise..." I will give you a call this week and we can set something up! Love you! Hi Marla, Mary and Leo, I regret that I did not get a chance to check in with you during the summer, but please know that I keep all of you in my prayers on a daily basis and am delighted to hear of continuing progress. We had the opportunity to spend a few days in Glenwood Springs this summer for a baseball tournament...our first vist to the area. What a beautiful place...I imagined you there as we enjoyed the hot springs pool, the baseball fields at the schools and the lovely mountain setting. I also wanted to thank you, Mary and Leo, for the advice about acquiring power of attorney for adult children; our oldest graduated from CU in May and our son started at CSU this fall, so we took that message seriously; something we never would have considered. Marla, I will be on sabbatical this fall, taking the CLIP training that you took a few years ago. You shared with me such amazing ideas about teaching reading...hopefully I will learn a few tips as well. I hope the move goes smoothly for all of you...and I will definitely give you a call when we're back in your area. Take Care! Love, Kathy G.

HI Mary, Leo, Mark and Marla, I continue to thoroughly enjoy reading about all of you every month. Mark, you just do a great job telling about all the family adventures and giving updates on all of you. I love seeing the photographs of all of you. How wonderful to know that Marla continues to make such remarkable progress. It is incredible to think she could be driving again!! I hope her elbow continues to improve. That must be a big project!! You all look great!! I loved that family photo of ou taken in Steamboat. Mary, your writing skills should produce a book someday about everything you have endured since Marla's accident. I think you are all such an inspiration to anyone else whose famiy member has suffered serious injury and a long recovery. I can think that you all are so happy to be back in Glenwood fulltime. Your parents look good, Leo and how wonderful they have been married sixty years!! I will keep all of you in my prayers, epsecially you Mary and Leo as you both recover from surgeries. Marla that you continue to grow strong and well and Mark, your dedication to your family and keeping all of us informed. I think of you often. My best to all of you. Warm Wishes, Linda

Hi! How are you? How was the camp that you attended? I bet it was encouraging and wonderful to meet some people with similar challenges. I'd really like to see you - what's your schedule look like in the next couple of weeks? Are you in Glenwood? If so, I could come to see you in October. Hope all is well and I'm keeping you all in my prayers. Love, Michelle Priola

I loved seeing your progress. My favorite picture is of the one where you are Super Woman! I look forward to seeing your pictures of camp. I am starting at a new school this year - Prairie Hills. I'll be teaching first grade. I am so excited. We also just turned in our paper work to China for the adoption of our second daughter. We are going to call her Analiese - like Vanessa's daughter. We should be traveling next summer. I'll visit the site again to hear all about camp. Love, Susan

Hi, Marla, I checked your website just now to see if there's an update which includes your camp experience. I'll look forward to seeing that, and some more pictures, but I know your family is busy with MANY things right now. I got back from Tucson,AZ, last night about 10:30. I drove over the day before, to spend the night at my father-in-law's and to bring home a stray cat he'd been feeding for about six weeks. Dorsey and I had a good visit; he's always fun to be with. He's 83 years old, and very active. I went with him on his round of delivering "mobile meals" yesterday; he delivers meals every day. The drive home was a bit difficult because of rain, but I got home safely. Tucson is about 200 miles away. I love to go over there. I think it's a delightful place. What I call the "Tucson colors" are the ones I'm trying to use in decorating my house. I love the intense purple and blue of the mountains, all the shades of gray-green to bright green, and the beautiful sand and rock colors. I wouldn't want to live there, because of the heat and the lack of real seasons, but I love the unique "desert majesty" of Tucson. I have good friends there, some from college years so long ago, and some who have moved there from Denver. A college roommate, Allison, who lives in Oklahoma City, has been wanting us to get together to celebrate retirement. I'm going to contact her to see if perhaps we could meet in Tucson for a few days. We attended the U of Arizona, and I know she'd enjoy the "memory lane" experience I had there in June. If she can fly there, I'll get a place for us to stay, and we'll just enjoy some days in Tucson. I'm hoping we can do that in late Oct. or early November. Silver City is green and lovely now, with so much rain this past month; last night was cool enough for my fuzzy pajamas! Tomorrow I'm going in to sign up for subbing. I'm not sure if I'll start right away, or if I'll wait until after Jan. 1, but at least I want to get the paperwork started. I think of you so often, and am so happy about all you are doing. Love you, Sylvia P.S. Cat Note: My Fancy Joy has a realistic-looking furry mouse toy. She or the other cats have started bringing it into bed during the nights, and I wake up to this mouse in my bed. I may have to retire that toy!

It is always interesting to read of Marla's progress. Even as much as we are impressed I don't think that we are capable of really understanding the magnitude of what she is accomplishing. We keep her in our prayers and check her website regularly. We are also concerned with Mary's problems and with Leo's need for a new cornea. We hope that these work out ok. Lots of love, Helen and Bob Williams

Hi,Marla, I'd just now written a long email after I read your update and looked at the wonderful pictures. I was typing away, in the middle of a sentence, and evidently hit something I shouldn't have, because in a flash the entire letter disappeared, and I couldn't find any way to retrieve it. If it somehow was sent, which I don't think it was, it ended in the middle of a sentence! I don't have time to start over again now, so I'll try again tomorrow. Love the pictures! So glad to get the update! Love you, Sylvia

Hi Shmars! Long time no speak! It's been a very busy summer. I spent 10 days in Europe (Germany, Spain and Holland) on a business trip and am heading to San Francisco this month for work again, but will spend time with Kim and Kim in Sonoma so that will be fun. When Mike and I are home, we work on the house... it's really coming along. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous in Boston and we've been outside as much as possible. I hope your move to Glenwood went smoothly. It sounds like you've been going to some pretty great concerts.. I know how you love music. I would have killed to see Sarah MacLachlan. That had to be terrific. Anyway, just wanted to drop you a note to let you know I was thinking of you. xoxo Lynz
